Getting
wget
on Mac OS X is pretty easy, so worry not. Just follow my instructions. Before that make sure you have a C/C++ compiler on your system, if you have XCode, you are all set and ready.
The first step, of course, is downloading the
wget
source code. We'll have to use our browser to download that since we don't have wget
yet. Get the wget
source from http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/wget/, scroll down for the latest version. The latest version as of writing this post is wget-1.13.tar.gz.
Once you have downloaded the source, unarchive it using Archive Utility (just double-click the downloaded file to get a new folder which looks like
wget-1.13
). Now open a terminal, cd
to wget-1.13
directory, and do the following:
There you! Now you have
wget
installed on your Mac. Confirm it this way.

Did
wget
fail to install because of some dependencies? Maybe you wanna go a less hardcore but very easy way, and manage all the packages on your system using Homebrew instead. Installing wget using Homebrew is as easy as doing this:
Homebrew is highly recommended for managing the UNIX packages on your Mac. I could have straightaway told you the Homebrew way but you'd have missed some valuable lessons if I did. The instructions for installing Homebrew can be found here. Get it!
HI, Guys. I am using mac osx, days ago while i was working on amazon web services, i was in need to download some contents from external url to my amazon EC2 instance storage. I tried wget url but that not worked , so i found that curl is already available on mac osx. so here is a way to get wget working on mac osx.
It seems that wget is installed with after digits the command brew install wget. But now if I digit on terminal: wget tlc.dii.univpm.it/fb4fd curl: Remote file name has no length! Curl: try 'curl -help' or 'curl -manual' for more information – Sara Savio Oct 12 '18 at 7:54. I update mac to Sierra, 10.12.3. My wget stop working. When I tried to install by typing. Brew install wget -with-libressl I got the following warning. Warning: wget-1.19.1 already installed, it's just not linked. Then tried to unsintall by typing. Brew uninstall wget -with-libressl Then I reinstalled by typing. Brew install wget. Since the folder wget will copy into is a protected system folder, you will have to use the sudo command and an administrator password. You have successfully installed wget. For example you can use wget to download zip files using the following command in Terminal. Wget http://www.file.com/location/file.zip.
The command line tool wget lets you retrieve a group of files from FTP and HTTP protocols, it’s a very useful utility for web developers and powerusers to have around because it lets you do things like perform quick and dirty site backups and even mirror websites locally.
This approach is going to build and install wget in OS X from source, this means you’ll need Xcode and the Unix dev tools (free @ Mac App Store) installed, but it has the benefit of eliminating the need of a package manager like Homebrew or MacPorts.
Assuming you have Xcode and the command line tools installed, launch Terminal and enter the following commands:
First, use curl to download the latest wget source:
curl -O http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/wget/wget-1.13.4.tar.gz
curl -O http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/wget/wget-1.13.4.tar.gz
Next we use tar to uncompress the files you just downloaded:
tar -xzf wget-1.13.4.tar.gz
tar -xzf wget-1.13.4.tar.gz
Use cd to change to the directory:
cd wget-1.13.4
cd wget-1.13.4
Configure with the appropriate –with-ssl flag to prevent a “GNUTLS not available” error:
./configure –with-ssl=openssl
./configure –with-ssl=openssl

Build the source:
make
make
Install wget, it ends up in /usr/local/bin/:
sudo make install
sudo make install

Confirm everything worked by running wget:
wget –help
wget –help

Clean up by removing wget source files when finished:
